The Marginal (Part 1).

Marginal people are individuals or groups who isolate themselves and are marginalized from social status. In general, marginalized people are often found in big cities, one of which is the capital city of Jakarta (Indonesia).

In Jakarta, almost every corner of the city is seen by the marginalized. Here the author gives an example of what is meant by marginalized people are the homeless or homeless, scavengers, beggars, punks, street buskers, etc. As for where they live, they vary. Some live under bridges, overhangs of shops and on the edge of railroad tracks.

The author is very adaptable to the marginalized and even the author has routine activities Monday to Friday visiting marginalized people in the Senen, Bungur, Kemayoran and surrounding areas. The author's purpose is to adapt and visit these marginalized people to provide motivation and metal coaching through informal and social assistance. This has been done for about two years.

In the Tanah Tinggi Satu area, Johar Baru Sub-district (Central Jakarta) it is seen that marginalized people live on the edge of an active railroad. They use plastic sheeting to make a tent as a place to live, mounted like a house with a distance of about one to one and a half meters from the side of the train tracks. The very close distance between their tents or their residences and the active train tracks which resulted in frequent accidents. The author once interviewed a person who had been hit by a passing train. You can see the scars on his body.

It was clear that the tents lined up along the Tanah Tinggi area train tracks. One tent consists of two or three occupants. And there are no toilets or toilets here. If they want to take a shower or defecate, they use the services of a public toilet which is outside the rail boundaries. The price system for paying public toilets depends on their use. If you take a shower, you have to pay three thousand rupiah and defecate two thousand rupiah. Marginal people who are on the edge of the Tanah Tinggi area have mostly scavenger activities. The goods from the levies such as plastic bottles, cardboard, and the like are collected beside his tent, before being sold. So that the nuances of view for the location look shabby, dirty and dirty into one.

Officers from the Indonesian Railways (KAI) how many times have tried to bring order to the location. In a sense, the officer strictly prohibits the existence of settlements within the area of active railroads, because this is related to the safety of people. However, the marginalized people came back to the location and made tents for their homes. The author once asked about what is the absolute reason that marginalized people return to live on the edge of the rail. The same answer is because they can't afford to pay rent or rent. Their income from mulung only for just eating.

The majority of the marginalized here are overseas, in other words from areas outside Jakarta.
